The harvest is a week early for the Barley & Oil-seed Rape.8-)

However, our plan A had to change when we arrived at our first set of Barley Fields.....The 2 new fields we wanted to try (1 with good intel on it) had not been done yet & only 1 had been started around the edge before they had stopped 3 runs in. (wasn't quite ready) As we had drove so far we decided to try this bottom lister before we looked elsewhere. The ground was heavy clay & the cracks were 2 inch wide by 8 inch deep, but this somewhat helped Cru'dad pry the lumps out using the cracks instead of digging. I decided to do the very edge just off the pretty high cut stubble & into the grass, just as I thought we would blank I got a silver 3 pence. What a relief, I thought, keeping my silver streak alive. I kept to this edge & followed it for some distance until I got another great signal only to look down & see a long cross hammered sitting on the top.:laughing7: Bingo, time to give up the near impossible conditions & move on. (1 hour 15 mins)

After a long drive we were please to see the Field of 500 had been harvested. This time the stubble seemed much better & the sandy soil made for a slightly better experience. We were only testing the waters, as this field was hammered when it was drilled (perfect conditions). After 1 hour 15 minutes I had 2 scrappies, & OTWBTTC I got a short-cross hammered (This field produces hardly any hammered!) So 3 silvers in 2.5 hours will do me for a steaming hot day.

2 Scrappies

Although 90% of the time we are gridding, its nice to get lucky like this when your not.:metaldetector:

Although this looks fairly 'normal' for us the way I did it yesterday wasn't. No-way I should have found what I did in 2.5 hours in solid ground conditions whilst wandering around!

Honestly, not a lot as the first field is not even on the list to grid & the Field of 500 was hammered when drilled with this crop. Meaning perfect flat wet conditions compared to concrete stubble conditions. The Field of 500 is the best bet, but it will not produce much more than 2-3 scrappies per hour.

Now if you can find the rest of King John's lost coins... :laughing7:

Congrats Crusader, always intriguing what you find there.
