Finally decided to make a post. Due to the crazy heat and lack of detectable sites don't have much to brag about but I believe at least some the recent finds are still worth to be mentioned.

Firstly, perhaps my favorite find of the last two weeks is this French Marines button (Compagnies Franches de la Marine) 1730-1760 I believe. Crazy early and pretty rare for where I'm hunting. Only my second one since I've started detecting. Couldn't have asked for a better condition.

An other interesting find was British Artillery officers button. Pattern of 1782

Some cool finds from an early trash pit. I couldn't dig deep so only collected the stuff I could. Picked up some very cool pieces of early pottery with the image of wooden ships. I believe it dates to 1820's-1840's ( I have found the exact plate online at an auction)

Some more early items.

And some later period finds.

Thanks for the comments.

Awesome hunt and finds! Congrats! If it were me, I would get back out there to do some digging and sifting for more finds and definitely try to find more pottery shards to complete the Naval scene as much as possible. That piece alone may have historical significance and great value.

Thanks huntsman. I just might try to go back and get more of those pottery pieces. Never know, something else could be hiding there.

Very cool finds-especially the plate sherds! I would go back and try to find more of it. Why can't you dig deeper? That's usually where the oldest stuff is.

Thanks DownNDirty. It's in the middle of a field. I don't want to get in trouble with the farmer.

Aureus that would be incredible it was French I did find a 8 pound French cannon ball and Iโ€™ve always wanted to find a French button in the French or at this fort first
The colonial French were the first to settle And build a fort In the early 18th century

I've never found a French cannonball but did get a few dozen British 4,8,12 and 24 pounders. The French one is still on my list.

You always have interesting finds! Iโ€™ve stayed away from the dump sites with my detector figuring thereโ€™s too much metal to get through to the โ€œgood stuffโ€ not to mention the glass..but I have access to two dump spots and wondered the best way to approach it. Itโ€™s overwhelming to go through a 200 year pit...

I've only did a few siftings on 200 years old trash pits. From my experience, the finds are abundant but it takes a lot of work. As long as you keep finding pottery and bones you have to keep digging.. I usually rarely use detector there, only to locate it.

Thanks. Pottery is always very cool. It's an old post. Was my second or third year detecting.
