The first 2 hours of the morning we finally got on the Barley stubble to check out a good crop-mark. I had it pegged as either a Roman Site or a Medieval site as the track-way seemed to head to a known medieval high status site. Although I was hoping for the best outcome for us which would be what we call a 'transitional' Iron-age to Roman site, it turn out to be a Medieval one. Actually these are much harder for us to find, so it will stay on the list for another day, especially as I wondered off target & found a lonely scrappy.
The next target on the list was found when I was recently doing more research on the newest (3rd) found Roman Site. It was a nice crop-mark in the next field, which when hunted it for 30 minutes turned out to be an Iron Age Site - see the nice piece of circa 50BC pottery shard in my hand.
So, for the last 1.5 hours in this burning heat we went back to grid the latest Roman Site. We got 23 Roman Coins but this field has the worst soil we have ever had, the coins come out concreted in an iron like sandstone, they nearly all needed scrapping with a knife. So our best hope is to finish the site & hope for a Silver!

4 Hours::sunny::sunny::sunny::sunny:

24 Scrappies
Horse Blinker (19th C)
Medieval Thimble
Medieval Horse Mount (piece of)
Roman Military Dolphin Buckle (broken)
Fav find of the day - 14th C Medieval Horse Harness Pendant - Eagle (rare find)

Yes, think about it on the side of the horse's head, but not any horse, the horse of a Knight or his followers.

yeah, I can easily see it as that. did the Romans have similar things like that as well for like commanders?

Looks like the conditions are like here. Concrete like soil. Fields are harvested but you need a pickaxe to get in. Still very good results, the eagle pendant is the first of this type i've seen. Really the top piece of the day. Looks like it had riveted leather ribbon on the back, makes it even more special. :icon_thumleft:
