It has been a few weeks since I have found silver. So I was ecstatic yesterday when I pulled this baby out of an 8-10inch hole! 1898 barber half dollar! Only my second barber half ever.
I was hunting in an older park but it has been completely redone recently. Fill dirt was brought in and fresh sod laid over that. This park had been hunted for years before that as well. I did not expect to find any silver as I assumed any leftover silver would have been buried deep beneath the fill and sod. This soil under the sod and fill was 100 year old compacted gravel so it was tough digging to say the least. I got an iffy 30-32 at max depth on equinox meter. I almost gave up due to the tough digging with my hand held lesche digger but luckily I stuck with it and was rewarded! Hopefully this ends my silver drought for a while. Coin is not in great shape as it was in hard gravel likely an old road or parking lot and had some crusty deposits stuck to it. But I will take it!
Also wanted to note that I was ironically using park 1 mode on nox 800. I have avoided it lately due to issues IDing big silver on edge. I checked this target in park 2 as well and didnt get an ID or signal I would have dug that deep. So dont sleep on park 1 it is a deep silver mode. Might miss some big silver on edge but I think it is worth the risk.
