    Colonial Escutcheon With Ring Pull

I havenít done much detecting lately, but I got out this evening and dug this sweet little relic. I love the primitive work on it. Iím assuming it is colonial era, right? Drawer pull or something else? Iíve only dug broken ďbat wingĒ escutcheons.

I love that! People don't pay attention to design and detail like they used to. Would have loved to seen what it came off of!

Could be colonial era, but why cheap out with an iron ring? The backplate is brass and highly detailed, then they slapped an iron ring on it? Could you post a photo of the back of the relic? Trying to figure out what it was used for...

How big is it? Is it big enough to be a door knocker?

Hereís the back. I donít know the answer on why the iron ring. I wondered the same thing. I called it a small escutcheon/ring pull, but maybe thatís not what it is. It wasnít dug too close to the house. More the near field or barn area. The site goes back to 1790.

Wow, weird setup in the back. No idea what it might have been. Your guess could be correct.
