First post in a long time. I've been too busy with work and not been able to do much if any digging. A good digging buddy was nice enough to share one of his sites and it has been a lot of fun and just the break I needed from work. The site is late colonial period but most of what we are digging is early 1800's. Our first trip there I dug my very first Capped Bust dime that came on my 3rd target. It's holed and well worn but I love it.

Yesterday was my second time at the site and despite the 104 degree heat index we managed to pull some keepers. My first two signals were flat buttons and from there it was pretty quiet until I dug what looked to be an early gold ring. My next signal was a gold locket, the next another ring, and then another ring. By now I'm pretty excited not knowing if they were solid gold or not I kept searching the 10x10 ft area for more signals but that was all I found for now. I didn't really inspect the rings until I got home and it is clear that they were gold plate but the locket appears to be a low grade solid gold. Either way it was exciting and got my heart pumping for a while since digging mostly colonial sites I never find jewelry. I'm pretty sure the jewelry was dumped there at a later date possibly from a home robbery.

My last signal of the day was the 1812 1st Regiment Artillery button. When I dug it I thought it was a flat button and didn't realize what it was until I got home. I've wanted to dig one of these for a long time and it was my find of the day.

Thanks everyone for the comments. It sure is fun to get out and clear your mind on a productive site. The only thing that would have made it better is if it were about 40 degrees cooler.

Thanks. No, he is a good sport. Actually, he dug an interesting piece of colonial gold that we had not identified yet. Maybe he'll post it.
