Got out on Saturday morning with JF and suggested a Baltimore County elementary school which opened in the 50s.

The site did not disappoint as JF had a personal best 5 silvers which included a Victorian silver pencil cover, 1947 Rosie, 1940 Merc, Sacred Heart medal, and a modern charm.

I was digging lots of high-tones but got behind quickly in the silver count until this beauty was unearthed from 9 inches (Equinox 600 stock coil has great depth).

Other items were found that indicated the connection of this property with a farm from earlier times: pocket watch cover and attachment parts, suspender clip.

Had to wrap up the hunt around 11:30 due to work for me but my last hole dug turned out to be my largest silver haul from a single dig. A home-made necklace of silver chain, iron key holder and a Cadillac hood ornament came out of the hole as a large twisted clump. Here it is cleaned up.

Total length as worn by the former owner was about a foot long.
Chain is marked "925 Italy" and bears a hallmark of the letter Y in a circle.

JF figured it to be an ounce of silver. He was close but it turned out to be just under 2 ounces. IMG_6517.JPG

We figure there is more silver and artifacts to be found but can we have a day better than this one?

The design shown here is likely what our necklace-maker was trying to achieve with the chain, key ring and hood ornament.

HMM Me thinks he ripped it off a caddy in a parking lot then wrapped the chain around it because he did not have time to steal a drill to make a proper hole!
