It’s been awhile since I made it out for a hunt but today was the day. I stopped on my way home from camping at a nice lake spot near old train tracks and it paid off. I found old coins, old tokens, silver, buttons, jewelry and relics. I couldn’t ask for a more perfect time. The best of the day for me was the RP button and the sterling ring. The coins were two 1830’s half penny tokens, Victoria large cent, Edward large cent, 1944 quarter and 1961 dime. Thanks for looking! [emoji16][emoji106]

Beauty finds! Yes, that cross is a beauty. Personally I think it's the best find out of the hunt...and I realize the significance and condition on the RP button. The cross dates to the mid to late 1700's likely. It is typical of the type found on fur trade sites.

Awesome. I wonder what metal and stones they were made of? Shame it’s missing the top stone but it looks like it was gone long before I found it and gone even before it was lost in the first place I think. The back looks like someone punched a hole to pop the stone out. I’ll put a picture up after work! [emoji16][emoji106]

Water pewters seem to hold up very well. Me and some friends dug 1812 buttons from saltwater that look like they were dropped a year ago. Excellent button man. It seems stable but just keep an eye on it since some pewters have a tendency to get brittle and flake. Many use Elmer’s glue/water in a 50-50 ratio. Either way, the condition is amazing!!!

Thanks. Think the lake mud/water was the reason it held up so good? The lake water level was low right now and the button was found where most of the year would be under a inch or two of water.

That button is in fantastic condition! Pewters fare really well when submerged in water. I found mine in a freshwater creek and it is in similar condition.

I've had the Trade Ring's analyzed, but not this type of cross. Just guessing, the ones I find are some alloy of cast brass also..........

Thanks. It was a nice hunt after a long hiatus. I wish it was a trade silver cross but a trade pewter cross will have to do! HaHa
I guess in a way it’s even more fragile of a find to be pewter because of how that stuff usually disintegrates after being in the ground for so long! [emoji16][emoji106]
