Back to the site I found the trime at. This place has given up numerous 1700 and 1800 items.

Out of all the old buttons I have ever found this is the first one with a point on it. No markings on it.

Right next to it I found whatever this other thing is- heavy enough to be lead I suppose. Any ideas?

Also I found what appears to be a heavily crusted penny but it rings as a solid nickel both for me and a guy I was hunting with - weird.

The coin that looks like a heavily encrusted penny, but rings up as a solid nickel, might be a three cent nickel.

Can you post pics of the penny next to a regular penny?

Yes, I will when I get home sometime tonight after work. But it looks exactly like a corroded Penny same diameter same thickness and very crusty so no identifiable markings whatsoever. Rings up as a perfect nickel on my equinox, and another guy’s MX sport.

Might be a counterfeit penny made of pewter. That would ring up as a nickle. That would be cool

I find many crusty zinc cents that ring up in the nickel range.......some even lower.
