2 colonial coppers and 3 "fools"colonial coppers. Updated pic of King George II
Haven't been out since Sunday so I was itching to get some hunting in today. Went to the field that I found the 1828 large cent and 2 musket balls in. The field is a good ways from the house that I park my car at. I could walk I guess but why do that when you can borrow a perfectly good quad from the home owner. Got to the site a few minutes later and started hunting. Great news. They are starting to cut the corn. Hunting will be easier today.
First signal came after about 10 minutes. Out pops an 1864 indian head penny.
Continued with the hunt and next signal was one of the fools coppers I mentioned in the post title. Coin sized....copper colored....button. ![:-\](https://www.treasurenet.com/smilies/undecided.gif "Undecided :-\")
Darn! Oh well. After I recovered from my near heart attack I continued. Next signal...........you guessed it. Another fools copper (large flat copper colored button with shank broken off.. I kept plodding along and found a few more buttons. One has a nice design of a tree or plant on the front and some writing that I cant make out on the back. The others are old corroded buttons with shanks still intact.
Here's where the hunt took a turn for the better. Next signal was what I thought to be another large flat button but to my surprise it was a colonial coin.
The bust is facing left and the back of the coin leads me to believe this is either a Connecticut coppa or an English halfpenny. The coin is not cleaned up great yet. i will post more pics after it is cleaned.
Next two finds were the musket ball and the lead fishing sinker that appears to have been fashioned out of a musket ball. I followed this one up with another fools copper flat button. (2 of these "fools" copper buttons are almost half dollar size...the third is slightly smaller than a large cent)
Last find of the day was the second colonial. Don't have much detail on this one yet. Got it soaking in olive oil. We'll see what we get soon. I'll update the post with pics later. The coins rang up as 72-74 VDIs on the DFX and the buttions rang up in the mid 40's. The White's DFX really did me proud today. If it keeps this up I may have to start singing to it like Kirk does to his machine. LMAO!!! Thanks for looking and any opinions on the coins will be greatly appreciated. More pictures will follow as the coins get cleaner.
