Got out this morning/afternoon to a couple of permissions in search of 1800s relics and coins. Dug several shotgun shell headstamps and copper 'farm' rivets. (You know, the ones that sound real good)
Managed to dig a 1868 shield nickel. Quite possibly the nicest I've found so far. Equinox display bounced between 11-12 with the coin in the ground.
Couple hours later the Deus informs me there is a shallow, nice sounding target under some corn stalks. A no digging required 1895 IHC.

Wind picked up considerably and the rain came down.
Oh well, was getting cold and hungry anyway.

That shield nickel is a beauty, not very often they look like that and it's always nice to get a surface find, congrats

Yes, as Jyverb says, those Shield nickels usually pop out almost unrecognizable, that is a very nice specimen! Congrats, Ddf.
