Lately, I've been putting in a lot of research into finding possible over looked sites. It is paying off...
Got on a really old site today! Was there for less than an hour.

I could tell by the way it looked. Most of the foundation walls were collapsed.
Also, the site was not on any historical maps and not even any historical reference of the old cart path that went there.
There was a good amount of good signals.
Most sites i visit have usually been pounded pretty good over the years. This site seemed different.
My first target turned out to be an oxen shoe.
My second target was a button of a type that I've not seen before.

And then another...

After some research. It turns out that these type of buttons are called a blowhole buttons.
blow hole or vent hole buttons are a lot older than first thought . they started out as two pieces ( the back with the holes and the front smooth convex side ) the two halves are hot soldered or brazed together and the holes do let out the hot gases then the shank is brazed on. these button are found at sites dated from mid 1600's to mid 1700's as a lot are found at French and Indian war sites.
Now I'm getting excited
My next 3 targets were broken shoe buckle frames. 2 even had some fancy!

My next 2 signals were 2 pewter buttons

My next few finds were 2 musket balls.... no pics sorry.

Then i got a solid mid signal thought is was going to be a tombac button. But turned out to be my first...

Whirlygig. Or whizzer !! Kids toy

All these finds so far have been within my first 30 min on the site. Hot!
Finally as i began to walk back to the cart path. I got another solid high tone. Was thinking spanish silver!!!!
But no..... 20181111_160728.jpg
A complete shoe buckle!.
I cannot wait to get back there and really comb that place. There has gotta be some coins close by!

Research does pay off Jon... love the shoe buckle and the whizzer! :occasion14:

If you found all that in 1 hour, just imagine what you'll find when you detect for 6 hours there!

Very nice finds congrats. There's a book by the Boston City Archaeologist called the History of Boston in 50 artifacts by Joe Bagley. Excellent book I highly recommend it. They found a whizzer and they were able to connect it to an actual person.
