Found a virgin site before the snow hit. Wasn't even sure it was a site because all the stones had been removed from the foundation. So gave a swing around it and out came a button.

Ended up digging 6 coppers, a British 62nd Regiment of Foot button, a sword pommel, 2 shoe buckles, 2 whizzers, and a whole lot of buttons. The 62nd Regiment served under General Burgoyne at the Battle of Saratoga in September 1777, where they surrendered and were POWs until 1782. The best coins were a 1723 Rosa Americana penny, a 1786 Connecticut Copper (Miller 4.1 variety?) with misaligned die & planchet flaws, and a counterstamped copper that's been worn smooth (has a Roman numeral 2 on it and was holed with a square nail). The rest are KGI and KGII coppers. Very thankful to have found this site.:icon_thumleft:

Nice goin D E! Wonderful little jackpot.
That place is going to be really hard to stay away from. Do you figure the gulley is actually a defensive position. You know Julius Caesar's guidance, "When you camp for the night, surround yourselves with a wall and a trench". Or at least dig a hole you can hunker down in.

Congrats and happy returns!

Hmmm, don't think so, only because the depression is located at the base of a small hill, so it would be very easy to be flanked and not have the high ground. Interesting idea though.

Very nice finds. Exactly the right kind of early stuff that I like to dig. Great to see a British Rev. War button found in New England - they don't come up that often. All of this is terrific, but I have a few inches of white stuff on the ground that fell yesterday. All these nice finds we be a terrible tease, if the snow doesn't melt by the time I hope to get out on Sunday.

Great site you've got there. What do you think it was? A home site? Almost looks like a fighting trench. Awesome finds.

Nice! It is very possible there never was a stone foundation. I have found a few sites over there years like that. Your Rosa is in excellent condition. They don't often come out of the ground that nice. Very cool CT and excellent Regiment of Foot button. :icon_thumright:
