Even though it was very cloudy and cool as my buddies say "The sun shined on me this time". I went to a well hunted home site with a friend and the Deus sniffed out some overlooked stuff among the trash. My first find was the 1899 S half dollar. I almost passed it up because it rang up as a 96 on my detector and that is in the iron range. But, the crisp signal made me decide to dig it and I am glad I did. If I hadn't I would have moved out of the area and not recovered the second target, an 1856 O half dime. They were my best finds of the day. I also found a sterling silver belt tip made by Keyston Bros. San Francisco and could use a little help on dating it. I am thinking 1900-1950 but would like to narrow it down. The other three coins are a 63 memorial, 41 wheat and 61 nickel.

Boy the Sun sure did shine on you , The Half looks Great & the Half Dime even Better (tho the HD's tend to do that ) .

Either coin would have made my year .

Nice old Bullets & brass as well.

Edit , The Belt end piece is a great Silver find as well , More metal for the treasure chest if it's not rare. GLWID on that one.

Nice work. Half dollars and half dimes are a rarity. Best.

After some thought and considering that there is no info that the Keyston Bros. ever made belts per se, it is now my belief that the Silver Belt Tip, is likely a Saddle Flank Cinch Strap Tip. At least it appears more likely to be Horse Saddle related based on the products they produced.

Excellent old Silver, Big and Small.
If you're hunting in 12Hz on the DEUS and you get a 96,, drop your frequency to 4Hz and re-scan the target.
If it is still reading 96, dig, dig, dig.
If it comes back at 98, or 99. It's iron.
Congrats again.

Thanks for the tip. I hope I get another target to use it on. To be honest though, the tone was so crisp and sharp that I would have dug it no matter what the reading was. It is very easy to dig in the sandy soil we have down here.
