Hello fellow Detectorists,

I am going to need a little help from the community on this one. So my father and I were out detecting my grandmothers 1940's farm house when I discovered a little present (Pics shown below). I called my dad over when I pulled this potential gem of a ring from the cold soil. Him and I were both trying to look for a stamp or makers mark on the ring hoping that it was gold or silver. We did find a stamp on the inside of the ring the appeared to read "ch 188", but the ring does not seem heavy enough to be a precious metal. Also, I did a magnet test with my 250lb test magnet and no attraction what so ever. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,

Hockey Detectorist

Edit: It appears that it actually reads "IBB CN" which is from the International Bullion & Metal Brokers.

I believe the CH188 is part of a makers or manufactures mark. Could still be gold.

Very nice ring, do you have a testing kit? Perhaps a jeweler can determine the gold content! :icon_thumleft:

You can do the toilet lid test and there are others on google if you bite it gold will be kind of soft enough to to make a little mark also what does it read on a 250 !!!!!! Im guessing gold from the makers marks inside.

It rang close to a copper penny tone which leads me to believe that it might be a copper ring with some gold plating.

Basket weave style ring. It looks copper and may have had a silver or gold plating to it. Looks like it has some mid century age to it. Nice find.
Could it have been your grandmothers?

A good friend told me the CN means copper nickel, so it was probably played. As for it being hers, she said "I would have remembered losing a ring!" Haha

Looks like it's styled Puzzle-Rings-4WSL-2T.jpg after a Turkish puzzle ring.
