Nice find, wondering if it's from a horse bridal or harness.

I first thought it was a barrette, but with it being sealed shut, that quickly changed my mind. We always chit chat with this guy who works at Target (ok I admit I am in Target all the time!!) and I was showing him pictures of it, as we had just found it the day before, and his thought was from a horse reign, which could make sense as it would be wide enough for leather to slide in it. So SD51, that is what we were thinking too!

Keeper off a standard leather belt that all wear and the tail end of the part that sticks out from the buckle once fastened around ur waist the excess length goes thru that loop which is part of a standard belt with a metal buckle. The width indicates that it is off a typical western (jeans) style belt.

Interesting about the belt slide... it's about 1-1/2" long, but do you think it is too decorative to be a belt slide?

Good find, and a heckuva interesting mystery....could be a reigns guide off a bit of tack, or as stated above a napkin holder.
Finding out the metal content (brass, silver, lead etc) might lend a clue.

Welcome, and nicely done.

Definitely a belt keeper and no it is not too ornate Dressy cowboy gear or a womens keeper. The 1950's Cowboy dress belts were very narrow Useless for daily but dress up worked well

Second thought that it may also be a keeper off a high dollar set of wide suspenders. You have the adjusting snaps and then the slides that you move to the bottom (belt line) to keep the two parts aligned where it goes thru the loops on the waist clips.
