    Can you please help identify?

So we found this in some woods, by a foundation, and it was several inches deep. We also found an old horse drawn plow hook from the 1800's nearby, so we are wondering if it is horse related? It appears to be welded/sealed closed, and we are not sure if it is brass?

I first thought it was a barrette, but with it being sealed shut, that quickly changed my mind. We always chit chat with this guy who works at Target (ok I admit I am in Target all the time!!) and I was showing him pictures of it, as we had just found it the day before, and his thought was from a horse reign, which could make sense as it would be wide enough for leather to slide in it. So SD51, that is what we were thinking too!

Keeper off a standard leather belt that all wear and the tail end of the part that sticks out from the buckle once fastened around ur waist the excess length goes thru that loop which is part of a standard belt with a metal buckle. The width indicates that it is off a typical western (jeans) style belt.

Interesting about the belt slide... it's about 1-1/2" long, but do you think it is too decorative to be a belt slide?
