:laughing7: I found this coin on a very chilly afternoon in a local park. Barely under the bark in the tot lot. It is a 1988 $1,000 Peso coin from Mexico. I have never found a coin with such a large denomination before. They were minted only between 1988-1992. According to this morning's conversion rate, 1,000 pesos are worth $49.43 US dollars on face value???? Should I keep this goodie in my pouch as a "lucky charm?" It feels good to be out detecting again after a hiatus due to neck surgery in October. Happy Hunting to all and thanks for looking. Sub 8-)

BH, Apparently, the large denomination bills and coins had to be exchanged during a government recall shortly after 1992. If they weren't exchanged, they would not be worth anything. So I have a souvenir at this point, but still fun to own! Maybe it is not such a "lucky charm" after all! LOL! Sub 8-)

In ~1993 the Mexican government dropped three zeroes off their currency; your 1000 peso coin became a 1 peso coin.
229+ million of this coin were minted. If it hasn't been demonitized, it would be worth about 5 cents.
The composition of your coin is Aluminum-Bronze.
Keep looking in the area of your find; the 1986-2000 peso coin is worth in the thousands of dollars in MS-63

Nice find Sub. If you do decide to carry it, and end up losing it, at least you know someone with a metal detector who could find it for you !

Very cool coin. Just could be a lucky charm. Try it out, if luck goes south, sell it.
