Remember the good old rotary dial phone well. When I was a kid in the 50's, my parent's phone was on what's called a "party line". That meant there weren't enough phone numbers to go around so about six families phones would ring at the same time and you had to determine if the call was for you. We would answer the phone if the ring tone was two short rings and one long ring.

The problem was everyone of the six families could answer the phone and listen to the conversation. I remember my mom saying she could hear the neighbor listening in because she could hear her dog barking in the background! What a system!

Remember when we were all on a "party" line? Your neighbors could listen in to our calls....

We had a party line. My Parents, Grandparents...and "Martina"...the old woman who was always on the phone. I remember talking to my friends as a kid with the constant third party breathing in the background. Whenever my Grandmother needed to make a call she would just pick up the phone and say "Martina"....and there was an instant "OK BYE" on the other end...lol

Phone calls were 20 cents at on point 15 cents people would toss a quarter in and the phone company literally made billions on the extra 5 cents
