the disc with the perforated pattern is from an oil lamp. I have several but they are all English Military1880 -1900 will look later to see if its the same pattern.

Chub

I know what your saying about the oil lamp plate as I have found one before but this is a button as it has a shank on the back

the brass cannon is an interesting find. Small signal cannons where used in early times right through the civil war, but that cannon is much to small to be a signal cannon in my opinion.

I have a civil war signal cannon which is made in the same fashion of a larger working size Dahlgren cannon.

This model weighs 50 lbs and has a .9375 smooth bore.

What about a model for manufacture of a larger cannon? Have you tried to find a comparable design in a working size cannon? That may tell you the time period.

I found this one at a site that is on a 1776 map but was there likely until maybe 1850. A friend of mine found one in the same immediate area that is for sure 18th Century and has the traditional placement of the hole. This is the one he found with the traditional touch home placement that is in the 18th Century style.

Beings I have been surrounded by antiquities my entire life... and not just "antiques"... but rare cannon and salvaged items of super rarity hundreds of years old... I have areas of expertise... one of which IS cannon... I grew up sitting ... climbing... eating my dinner on cannons.

Now,,, I only say this in response to the "expert" statement.

I can say this... there are 2 people on this site who know cannon... and I am one of them.
All types.
All sizes.

NOW,,, tha does not mean I know everything... NOR does it totally rule this out as being a toy cannon... FOR... I learn new things everyday... and also see new things from time to time as well :)

Anyway... Bah.

Me... age ? ... with one of my "pets". :P

Sheesh... I had a cannon for a pet once. (thought it was better than a rock)

Cool pic, if you happen to figure out anything else let me know, i added a pic of the rear, to me the back looks like where you add a fuse, why else a little hole, i will keep hoping its real until i know for 100%. By the way thank you for all your input; also what do you think of the buckle?

Hi , I am a bit worried , Seems a Gentleman's Desk Decor did not exist for over 3 centuries . German's did not make Penny Toy metal cannons until 1911 . Not sure about history anymore. I will just leave to the know it alls. TP

It may be a presentation cannon to a ships officer. The carriage was made out of the same wood that the ship was built with.
