Sick much of the week but feeling better today, I got out for a couple hour hunt at a Baltimore Co. Rec field. Managed $10.71 in clad and a silver earring. Late in the hunt I ran into an area with iron sounds and got a 36-38 on the Equinox 600. The target was down about 7-8 inches, a green disk that turned out to be a coin. The detail on the back was the key to identifying this as a Virginia half penny, minted by the Crown in 1773.

Way to go. In all the years I've dug I only have one of those.

Don't use water on it. Your contrast will disappear if you do. Mine was found in Harford Co. back about 1988.

Thanks Smokey. Just used a toothpick on it. Thankful for the detail that remains after 245 years.

Thanks Darryl! What's crazy is that my last hunt was 5 days prior, again in a rec field and got a screaming high tone that turned out to be a large cent. Didn't think I'd be repeating the rec field copper experience again.
