I made it out for a couple hours at my latest super convenient lost farm park site this week. This place is several acres, mostly woods, lots of hills, a meadow, moss covered stone ruins and the PA Turnpike... it’s a beautiful place to hunt if you keep your back to the highway... Definitely need loud headphones to drown out the noise of the semis, but can’t eliminate the smell of diesel exhaust unfortunately.

I thought the first target was going to be a typical turn of the century farm rivet, but when I cleaned it up I believe it is a WW2 lapel or collar pin.

Then I found a 1.25” dia brass ball super deep, maybe 14”, but gave a great small tone so kept digging. I found 2 of these in 2017 and they were ID’d as powder mill balls.

Next came another flatbutton. Treble Gilt, Standard Color

Then the mystery item. Seems to be a brass/pot metal outer skin and a plug of lead jammed inside.

Then finally there was one small tight whisper of a signal, 23-23. Field2, sens 18, iron on, mid recovery. This is usually a wheat cent on my Nox in this mode. Popped the snowy plug.

Could not believe that it was a Barber Dime! No water on me so used some snow to clean up.

Cleaned up with soap and water.

Here is the quick handful.

Good luck out there!

FYI, my silver to wheat ratio for 2019 is 7-6. Over three years I average spot on a 1-4 ratio, so I am ready for the dirt God’s to apply their penalty and the next 22 signal will be wheats...

Looks like a WWII Marine lapel pin. Nice Barber too. I found one of those copper balls, about the same size, on a 1790-1815 site. I thought mine might be a gunpowder mill ball too, but don't know where that mill would have been.

Don't start monitoring your silver to wheat ratio just yet, your figures are skewed by that silver coin spill last weekend :laughing7:

Thx Steve, ok if I count the pocket spill as just one find then I’m at 2:6 ratio, only have to suffer through a couple wheats before the next silver, I like your thinking.

Nice finds. Did you need a jackhammer to dig the frozen ground?

The deep freeze is coming Sunday. Supposed to get to zero, still in the 20’s this week. Enjoy the warmth!!!
