"Tried ole grubby's method at Victoria Hill Gold fields"

Hi all, yesterday i went to place called Victoria Hill. Some 3 million oz's of gold was mined on and around the hill.deep quartz reef mines on the top of the hill and open-cut,puddling machines , 400 foot tom-tom sluices and other alluvial diggings on the creeks and gullies below the hill. Most of the ore from the quartz mines was graded, when crushed by ball-mill or quartz stamper batteries.the fine crushed sand was then treated with arsionic or mercury to exstract the gold.Deepest mine here is the Victoria Quartz at 5004 feet and the 180 mine produced 180,000 oz's of gold in the 3 months.Since the mining days much of the tailing dumps have been washed down into the water ways and this fine sand and very contamiated slurry sits in bottom of the creek.Tried old grubbies method but had little result.I think any allvial gold missed by the early miners would be buried under tons of tailings and would be far out of the reach of any type of MD.If you found it gold would be just luck.

on the creek flat i did find some mining relics from the early days [first gold rush] 1861 merchant token cornish pipe and old english black bottle but no gold.I have been coming to this site for many years.Awsome relic spot. ;D ;D ;D heres aheeps of pics of mining equipment, gold mines and the area on the creek flat i found a miners camp.finds too

tinpan please wait a few minutes as will take sometime to post all the pics.

Wow! That token sure has a lot of detail for an 1861 coin! It's a great site, and thanks for the story.

Tinpan - be careful around places like that - mercury isn't the nicest thing to get alot of exposure to.

Nice token though and neat pics

Big butts, old butts, is there a difference? Hmmmm...maybe the big butt would be an old butt. Or, the old butt may not be a big butt. So, if the old butt isn't big, would it still be kissable? :-* ;) :D

Re: "Tried ole grubby's method at Victoria Hill Gold fields"

Thanks for the replies.Ole grubby your right, much of the mining equipment dates from 1880 to 1930 but the first gold rush was in 1851 and there where numerous .the gold fields i live on covers about 600 square miles and is part of a larger field that cover most of the state of Victoria.Large scale mines still operate.thats 150 years of mining non-stop.the largest nugget ever found {the welcome strange} is only a hours drive from my place and the 1980's Hand of faith half hours drive.total amount of gold mined to date 100 million oz's. and they left me little lol
