Found this at house pre 1900. I have no idea what this may be but I think it has a mechanism on it so it could be opened. This may have been attached to something else being that there is a loop connector attached. Anyone??

To me this could be a pendant or a link from a bracelet that used to be gold plated but has lost its plate down to the copper layer
I remember my grandfather had something for holding his cigarette papers. He used to roll his own. Not saying this is it but looks sometwhat from what i can remember . How wide is it ?Some of my gpanpas papers were already folded sh they had a crease in the middle
I agree, part of a plated bracelet. If you squeeze the two "dog ears" together toward the loop, and pull them straight out of the body, you will see that it is part of a locking clasp. Cheers, Sub
I think Safety Clasp for jewelry. In the third pic, in the middle rectangle, right hand side, you can see what appears to be an "X" (Asian influence?) possibly part of the makers mark.
Something like:
