In the days before the tourist came Myrtle Beach AFB was an extensive training ground for our military serving in WW 2. Lots of practice shooting with the machine guns and other munitions.

Recently the beaches were restored and makes for some interesting finds of memorabilia and not much else as it is buried. I assume these were pumped in from offshore.

3 live rounds of 50 caliber go to the sheriff's department for proper disposal.

In the one photo you can see the holes I dug. I slept good!

Good finds! I started finding the 50cal. bullets in the 70's, and didn't know why? Always seemed to find more between the Hilton and the old Apache campground. I've never found a whole round? Good luck.

I've always wondered about detecting Okinawa, when I was there in 69, the bomb disposal people were busy several times a day. we found live rounds at the beach all the time (with all of the bomb craters) at the beach

I always used to find old military ordinance when we went to North Myrtle for our one week yearly vacation. 50 cal casing and slugs. I have also found some nice rings there over the years. Momma still wears an 18k loaded with ice that was found about 8 years ago.

I find my WW2 ordinance on Bethany Beach in Delaware. Out of curiosity what are the head stamps on the 50 cals?

Keep swingin.

When I was a boy my dad and I would pick up dozens of the bullets and casings in a wooded and sandy section near the Hilton. My dad is now 87 and says that area was a gun range for the pilots to practice shooting.
