I was lucky enough to swing over this 1846 Charleston Slave Badge/Tag yesterday. 1846 Servant. #971. I still can't believe it!!!!! 2nd Tag in 3 months. 1st was an 1852 Porter. Found in a spot we've walked over.... Must have hit it at just the right angle yesterday. Was 9-10 inches deep and my first target of the day!!!!

From the title of your post I was expecting to see a religious artifact. That is a very cool detecting find. A very sobering detecting find. If I was ever fortunate enough to dig one up, I would be "feeling extremely blessed" not to have been a slave. Banner find. Congrats.

Think the title is throwing folks off the scent of this auto-banner in my books. Any servant tag, while a dark spot in history, is an incredible find. Dug an 1837 and I'll never forget that day, so difficult to find one...but 2 is nuts.

That is a wonderful find of an authentic Charleston slave tag. I'm going to vote for the banner.
