Only had a brief amount of time to get out this morning but sure glad I did. Went back to what has been a very productive wooded area where a house once stood. Have pulled numerous buttons, copper and silver coins dating from late 1700's thru mid 1800's. Today I stepped it up to gold. Minelab Equinox 600 gave me a solid 16 reading from several directions but also a bit of iron tone nearby the target. Dug it anyway as it was very repeatable. Low and behold I see the glimmer of gold coming from the rim of a coin. I gently pulled the coin out and sprayed with some water that I always keep on me. The water rinses the sand away to reveal a beautiflly preserved 1851 No mint mark 2 1/2 dollar gold coin. What a day!!!

First I'd like to say congratulations. There is no other feeling than seeing that gold in the ground. And for your sake I hope this gets banner and I'll give it my vote. But no matter how rare it is, gold coins are weird for banner. I dont think the mods like many on banner at once. Heck, last week me and my dad both found a $2.5 gold coin and haven't got banner. I guess it's all circumstantial. But congrats and I hope they decide to give it to you.

Thank you and congrats on your find as well. Hard to top that feeling seeing a gold coin come out of the ground.

I voted BANNER for your find - This coin is in GREAT condition and it was found in "a typical" location YOU have pounded several times before and an excellent detailed comment on the finding of it AND the picture with it in your hand looks like it still has a lot of mint luster on it......THANKS FOR POSTING.

I can't imagine that an obsolete U.S. gold coin would not be banner - even if there are other gold coins up there , these are really rare finds - always banner in my book !
