Had Friday off and headed over to Druid Hill Park in Baltimore for a hunt. I decided on four different spots to detect. While the first produced nothing more than clad, the second held a big surprise, a copper coin, the size of which I'd never seen. It came from 9-inches down and is 4 cm in diameter; this is an 1832 80 reis from Brazil that is counter-stamped as 40. IMG_7342.JPG IMG_7343.JPG IMG_7346.JPG

Also from location 2 came the remains of an old padlock keyhole cover with the royal cypher WR patent.

The third location gave me my first IHC of the day, an 1899.

The fourth and final spot held even more good finds: two more IHCs

and an 1860 one shilling

....a hunt I won't forget.

Thanks washingtonian! Being a port city probably found more foreign money coming in and this park saw lots of visitors from its opening in 1860.

Thanks Argentium! That shilling came late in the hunt, I had hunted the SE quadrant near a hilltop tree and decided I'd concentrate on the NE quadrant late yesterday. Only got through part of it and the Vickie showed up.

Thanks Dparson05! Phenomenal day at a park that I'd given up on a couple years ago. Equinox seems to be making a consistent difference in my results.

Very nice finds, I am originally from Baltimore but moved away years ago to Texas. I miss those old colonial finds. It's hard to find stuff like that in TX.
Happy Hunting...

Thanks Crusader! I need to be "schooled" on the patent designation. I've seen it on keyhole cover plates but do not appreciate the history.

Thanks Smokey! Now that's beach hunting. A Vickie on the beach is a real coup.

Thanks Whyme! That shilling is .925, so that must be the origin of "sterling".
