Got 5 buttons all together today and my first silver one !! Along with a crusty IH 1874 broken thimble and what looks to be a bullet shell but never found one like that before? Can anyone help date these please
Truth, the button was made by soldering the front to the back. The "blow holes" let the gasses escape when the button was soldered together. Mainly on pre 1770 sites, I have found a few on the 1777 Brandywine Battlefield, although a long time ago.
Congrats! All your finds are nice, especially the silver unit...I thought it might be an old blow-hole button but saw that Smokey did indeed verify it. Great stuff, thx for sharing, Ddf.
