My first really GOOD find!! In one hole I found 5 loose nickels (2)1908, (1)1909 and (2)1911. About 2 feet away I got another hit. I dug that spot and around 5" deep I pulled this old tea cup or something up that had coins in it! After the pictures, I removed the coins. There were 7 more nickels! The oldest one being the nicest....an 1883. I also found (2) 1869 Indian Head Pennies in the same field. The picture is of the nicer one of the two.

Nice cache of V nickels!

I've never seen them come out of the ground so clean. Lucky you!

WOW...can't believe I missed this post. Great coins.

Did you clean them up (including the remains of the container) before posting them? I have yet to find a V nickle in that kind of shape. Normally any time I have dug up any type of open container (regardless of soil type) it is packed hard with soil. I would think that nickles in compacted soil would corrode with or without being inside an open cup.
Now coins being found inside sealed tins and such I can see being cleaner.

Was this cup or whatever closed or more intact before you dug it out?
