The snow is melting and the weather is starting to feel like spring here so I was able to get out a lot more between family obligations.
Monday I went to campus for 5 hours and found 147 coins with a face value of $9.89, the usual tabs, foil, etc. a GM key and a tiny little silver megaphone charm. For some reason I can’t seem to find a spot with anything but tiny silver.
Tuesday I went back hoping for better luck. Did not happen. I only had 3 hours and managed 71 coins with a face value of $5.62 an O from a car, and some fake bling.
Wednesday I found out the scout camp to the west was snow free so off I went and spent 5.5 hours swingin away. I ended up with more tent pegs than coins. In all the times I have been there I don’t think this has even before. 113 tent pegs and 102 coins with a face value of $9.27, a flashlight in a bag with extra batteries (the light works the batteries don’t), 22 aluminum rope tensioners that I return to camp along with the pegs so they can reuse them, 5 neckerchief slides (3 older cub slides and 2 Webelos slides), a B leather stamper, a fake cob, 3 game tokens, the brass part of a belt hook for your pocket knife, and a variety of fishing sinkers.
I also found what I think are excavator “teeth” and some hardened tips broken off the teeth. I have found these in several of the rocky campsites. I was told they were used to break up and remove some of the rocks. If anyone knows more about this than the people I have asked please chime in.
And the week finished yesterday with another trip to campus. It was penny day with 69 coins and a face value of only $2.73. I did find an Almont Rekey lock in sad shape, but the best find of the day was the 1937 wheat penny I got in change at McDonald’s on my way to the hunt.
Not my best week, but good weather, a lot of swing time, good coin count and gas money, enough finds to keep it interesting and another tiny little silver. Right now this old man is tired. Too many days off this winter and I am out of shape.
