Maximum Effort Pays Off!!

Ground is bare but still frozen so did a quick mudlark on the river then went to my Million Bottle bottle dump! I love hitting this part of the river in the spring because the winter erosion always pops something out. Picked up a carter's ink, an irregular shaped bottle and an outstanding whiskey flask. Pretty confident that the flask is mid 1800s.

Next stop was a massive semi-modern bottle dump on the same river. Millions (no exaggeration) of bottles over an area the size of half a football field. Found a couple decent porcelain signs here last spring so had that on my mind. Picked up a couple bottles then saw the telltale red and yellow just barely visible. Walked over this spot a dozen times last year and missed this. Ground was frozen solid and it took over 2 hours to chip this out...broke my shovel but it was worth it!

Bonus was the skull and crossbones bottle came out of the hole with the sign!

I like the Coke sign. I don't think I've seen one with a yellow background. Folks that dig old beer cans use a solution to get rid of the rust and, in most cases, bring back a lot of the detail and color underneath. Great finds!
