After 6 hours of toil for Uncle Motors, I got to the 1868 house at 12:30pm. Whoever said that the first find is often the best is onto something. First dig was an 1881 I.H. I had great plans for the rest of the hunt, but what I got was about 7 old square nails, a very old spoon that rang like silver (but doesn't look like it), 26 cents of junk money, and a tooth off an old mower blade--triangle-shaped with the 2 rivet holes. And a mashed jar lid and a piece of heavy crockery or stoneware that might be a piece of a chamber pot.
Here's the stuff. Still not enough light, but smaller pix this time.
The I.H. is a bit worn, but I'm glad to have it. 4th one, I think.

Nice IH!!

I believe your jar lid may be the top off of a lamp.

Wow! "Right you are, Pat Summerall!" Sorry, watched too much football in the 70's.

Thanks for the info, and nice catch! I washed it and gently pushed apart the center part to find that, yep, it's the wick slot for a kerosene lamp--a bigger lamp than the one I found parts of down the street (2nd pic).
1st pic is today's lamp part and the reverse of the chamber pot part, while I was at it.

I love this place... Can't swing a dead cat w/o hitting a Subject Matter Expert. ;D

Admiral,
Very nice looking IH. I love finding those. My fav looking coin.
There has to be a market out there somewhere for those square head nails. ;)
Congrats,
MM
