I hit a field I have detected 5 or 6 times over the last 3 years. I don't go back there to often, as the farmers are no till and all I'm really not finding much of anything at this point. I just wanted to give it another go, since they will be planting soon. So, arriving at 7:00 am yesterday, by 9:15 I was disgusted with not finding anything, and was going to call it a day. I left my detector on, and detected my way towards my truck (an area I have been thru many times before) and got a nice silver hit on my CZ 5 (my go to detector for the fields). Sinking my shovel into the ground, and flipping the dirt out, I could easily see I had just popped a Half Dollar. I could clearly see the date 1892, so I knew it was the first year for Barber Halves. After getting it home and soaking the dirt / mud off of it, I looked on the reverse and saw the coveted "S" mint mark ! This coin looks to be in Good 4 condition. That is the second key date coin I have found in 2 weeks. 2 weeks ago it was the 1875 Indian in AU condition. Don't turn your detectors off until your back at your vehicle ! A rule I have always lived by.
