I found some keepers in an old yard in Hillsdale yesterday. The ring had me on cloud 9 for sure. I haven’t been able to find much on it or the hallmark, but I think the general consensus is that it’s not actually from 1830, but that was when the college was founded. Either way I’m stoked and consider it one of my best finds. Some other goodies pictures. Thanks for looking and HH, Griff.

That soil must be really kind to your coins. They really cleaned up nice. The Indian looks like it was just minted. Congrats.

Thank you! We are very fortunate here in in Michigan to have soil that is very kind to copper coins...I’ll try to add a couple pics of other ones I’ve found that are nice too..

Wow! What a wonderful collection of historical finds. While the coins are thrilling, the other objects are very interesting, too. As others have pointed out, the coins certainly clean up wonderfully. Obviously, you have a good technique. If I could find ONE of those coins, I would be thrilled, much less the whole collection. I envy you being in such a historical area. That, coupled with technique, and a little bit of luck, equal success.

Some history and the origin of the year '1830' on your ring:
Oxford Female Institute was founded in 1830 and officially chartered under this name in 1849. In 1852, the Oxford Female College was founded. In 1867 the Oxford Female Institute merged with the Oxford Female College, and in 1890 the name was changed to simply Oxford College. Today, it's a part of Miami University.
Don....
