Some recent colonial and early 19th century finds from West Virginia

Some of my earlier posts didn't seem to be working right. Here is some of the good stuff I've amassed from around where I live in WV in the past couple of weeks. I found most of this just following the colonial era roadbed which was abandoned, from what I can tell by 1815 or so. I was actually looking for Civil War camps, but determined the road I found predated it by a good bit.

Yeah, there's a lot of sweat represented there. My favorite is probably the 1st model brown bess sideplate, which is mid 18th century. Very early for WV, even if recycled.

Very nice! A couple nice lock plates, a couple side plates, beautiful shoe buckle frame, buttons, utensils. Quite a collection. All from one spot? Looks like you dug out a cellar hole or trash pit. The iron is in exceptional shape on both lock plates, especially the one with the hammer. All you need is the flint.

I believe it's been cattle pasture since the early 1800s, and is much too rocky to hay or plow. So I'd say it never got much fertilizer.
