Amazing button! I have found A's, I's, and C's, but never a D, also never that old as I live in Idaho. Congratulations on a great find.

Niffler: How do you tell the different regiments apart by these buttons? I can't find that info.
I do see that dragoons went west for indian issues pre 1850, but didn't know they went as far as you. Did you find dragoon buttons in Idaho?

Thank Reanm8er for the thumbs up. Thanks to all for the comments. there were 2 trails that split . We went down one looking for a cellar hole
and cut thought the woods and came up the other trail. I had dug 2 wheats before. Pure luck i hit it. Most of my buttons are flat , very few even have designs
on them. when this popped out i had a feeling it was a keeper. Still smiling . :hello2:

That’s even nicer blown up, that article was eye opening as well. I own a Smith carbine (civil war) manufactured in 1863 and issued to the 1st Massachusetts cavalry, huh, whooda thunk
