That is a really nice buckle. Looks like a knee buckle, but I can't see the pin terminals in the frame from the back view.

Thats an absolutely beautiful buckle. Pure silver color on one side and an outstanding patina on the other.

It looks like you are onto a really good site! Congrats on those finds. That is probably a knee buckle from the 1700's. Now I am no buckle expert but it would be really cool to find a 1600's hat buckle. I'm curious how one would differentiate a Hat buckle from other kinds of buckles.

On second thought maybe that's a little big for a knee buckle. Maybe a small shoe buckle?

Knee buckle is what I was thinking.

There should be two little raised humps in the side of the buckle with little holes where the chape pins entered the frame.

Congrats, you have a really nice 18th century knee buckle there. The reinforcement humps are not as pronounced as on these, but I can see them.
