Hi everyone,

Sorry not a todays finds but represent the last 3 or 4 hunts over the past week or so. I was working this week nights and took advange of the free time and scouted some of my favorite parks and old hot spots.

Its amazing how many times you can go over sites and not clean them out. Different machines switching on and off seem to give a slight advantage at times.

After taming the ctx down over a few seasons ive really got into tune with the machine. Used an etrac for 5 years straight but the ctx is slightly different.

Wont bore you with a long write up. Picked up about a half dozen coins in an average of 3 hr hunts. Just to give you an idea.

Got a bday hunt in and pulled 6 indians two barber dimes hunt that day.

This 10 gave me 52ytd. Try to make that 100 goal every season. It can be done but you need alot of hours to hunt each week.

Good luck out there.

Jer

10 more silvers! Nice, that’s a big step towards your goal. Is that a lead CW Miniball? Found in the Burgh? Congrats

Yes,

They are actually 3 ringer bullets with the bottoms hollowed out. We had an aersenal here that supplied all the war of 1812 ammo civil war etc.

They were both found right next to one another. You can find them around here from time to time.

The coin is actually copper. I wizzed it up a bit trying to bri g out the bust or any detail left on it. Thought it may be a thin canda lc or maybe older.

Nice haul Jeremy. So as not to confuse Thad who doesn't have much expertise when it comes to CW bullets, the bases were not hollowed out, they were cast that way intentionally. Also, the Allegheny Arsenal in Lawrenceville blew up on September 17, 1862, the same day as the Battle of Antietam, killing a lot of female workers and sending mini balls all over the neighborhood. People were still finding these mini balls in the neighborhood within a few years ago.

Steve no problem.

I didnt mean like they actually hollowed them out. Just was trying to point out thats how you can tell there old and civil war era when those bases have that hollow to them.

Yes ive found the big .69 calibers in the past over at aersenal park. Yeah neat story they had a major blast from a spark i beleive that was kicked off the bottom of a horses shoe.

Killed alot of people. Could be heard from miles away. Must have been an ugly seen at the time.

Yes the Civil War musket (infantry) bullets have hollow bases, and the carbine (cavalry) bullets have flat bases. You're right, those were big .69 caliber bullets that were found over by the arsenal. I never got over there to find some, although I was invited to hunt some athletic fields that were being worked on and people were finding bullets.

Yes I've found some in the past at various spots with the flat base also.

I knew a guy about 15 to 20 yrs ago and he pulled hundreds of .69 and those big round balls off that athletic field on 40th st.

They are fun to find. I could dig those all day. We were a little late but still managed to find a half dozen bullets over there in that area.

I would imagine there are still a ton of them in people's yards etc surrounding the arsenal.
