My first time in my yard

A vintage Browning King & Co. button with "K", a Winchester Remington & Peters 30-30 casing or shell, an intact metal lipstick case and another empty tube with Distr. Pitkin Inc. Newark NY on bottom, 2 dog licenses (1951 and 1962), a small padlock, a 1920 Modern Health Crusader pin, 2 quarters, 5 pennies (wheats), a possible watch fob with "G", and an old rusty what looks like would go on a barn or shed, along with a few older pull tabs, some nuts, bolts, nails.

i started detecting in 1975 at age 12 - almost gave it up - i got to hunt with older guys and they were finding goodies every where we went - but no one
would take the time to help me out ...so had to learn for myself - in Spring of 76 - i decided to hunt my yard - it went back to the late 30s
I started finding coins as soon as the ground thawed and even in areas that were shaded and still frozen i was getting reading so knew
there was more to come. I started getting silver coins and buffalo nickles and lots of wheats - every day after school i would hit it for a little while
and i was slowing down and going for fainter targets and got deeper coins - I was learning my machine little by little - i then applied what i learned to parks
and schools etc. ..and eventually 1976 ended up being a very good year and kept me in the hobby
so hope it does the same for you

Keep it up wish I could just walk outside and find that. Iíll drive a hour or 2 to find one silver or one CW relic, but Iím a degenerate detectorist. I admit Iím sick.

I agree. Guys like Casper is the reason we have to work four times as hard to find the good stuff.
And I still hunt my yard just in case I missed something.

With all the online forums like this one and You Tube, plus the books being written and sold a person can learn MD pretty easy without having someone by your side teaching you the ropes.

I hunted by myself my first 2 years. I still hunt by myself 90% of the time. Most of my friends fish and they think Iíve literally lost my mine with this detecting. All my poles have dust on them lol
