So,My find of the day is this 1700's solid silver Luckenbooth trade brooch. You can still see a small part of the pin still wrapped around the pin on back. Nobody has seen this shape of it though. a 173? KG11 copper my 13th copper for the year a cool pewter button with a back mark. never dug a pewter button with a back mark before. a few flat buttons and 2 iron hand forged strap hinges.
Not sure technically if it's a
Luckenbooth? since it's not heart shaped but a few people said it's a trade silver brooch.

Well Dave not surprisingly I have been unable to find anything of similar design. I would love to know what that design represents. To me itโ€™s unique and beautifully done. Iโ€™m in love with these early silver brooches. Itโ€™s a fantastic piece to add to your collection
Thanks so much for trying! Nobody seems to be able to find it. We think it was a custom made piece for somebody special. Really appreciate you taking the time to research.

Congrats again, my friend. Awesome find. It's very rare to find solid silver items from the colonial era and you got a really nice one. I will join Ahab and the others with a Banner vote.

This is a really intriguing find my friend. Being of Scottish descent I have a real love for these Luckenbooth pieces. The one I found is one of my favorite finds ever. But itโ€™s the normal double heart design. Iโ€™m really curious to know what the meaning of yours is. Iโ€™m going to do some digging and try to find some info. Iโ€™m curious if this is technically considered a โ€œLuckenboothโ€? Regardless itโ€™s an amazing find and one that has my full attention. Iโ€™ll let ya know if I find any info. Thatโ€™s s fantastic find and I consider these complete brooches to be BANNER finds. Especially one as unique as this. Very special indeed
luckenbooth doesn't mean heart shaped. The name comes from the Luckenbooths of Edinburgh where jewelery and trinkets used to be sold. Luckenbooth is a Scots word for a lockable stall or workshop. The Edinburgh booths were situated on the Royal Mile near St Giles Cathedral. They were the city's first permanent shops, going back to the 15th century, and initially housing mainly silversmiths and goldsmiths. They were demolished in 1817. By the mid 18th century Luckenbooth tokens also featured heavily as trade silver items to the indigenous peoples of the Eastern Woodlands, particularly the Iroquois

Sure looks like you are having a great year HEAVYMETALNUT. Thirteen coppers at the mid-year point is very impressive....and so is that broach!

Dave - Awesome finds as usual. I hope that you might be able to determine a bit more from the silver broach. Summer is here. I know it's been getting hotter and hotter in New England, and your still putting in your time paying your dues toward another big find. I recall it was like 9-degrees out when you scored your last banner find in the winter. Whether it 9-degrees or 90-degrees, you're out there on your next adventure. Congrats and keep them coming! :headbang:

Borrowed this from another group, think you may have an 18th century shirt buckle. Shirt Buckles were used either to hold the ends of a neckcloth in place, or to secure the shirt ruffles together. They came in a variety of forms, heart-shaped being popular as seen here. John Durand, "John Murchie" ca 1780. The Valentine, Richmond, Virginia.

Would certainly explain the non standard shape

Thanks and yes you are correct! If you don't get out and try to find something, someone else will beat you to it,is the way I look at it.
