It's funny how things turn out. We returned to a freshly disced Barley Stubble field to follow up what we thought was a lead. Last time we were here some weeks back, we saw some diggings along a tyre track. We wondered what the night hawk was doing, as it wasn't a very good field, but maybe they knew something we didn't. So returning there today I gridded the area near the diggings, & out popped our 1st Celtic Bronze Unit of the year! (but nothing else, other than some Iron Age Pot Shards). Just before lunch we saw the farmer (actually the first time ever, as Land-Mag got the permission & we have yet to show them our limited finds) & asked about whether he let anyone else on? ''No'', he said, OK you must have Night Hawks then. We then told him where we spotted the diggings & then he realised, 'oh that was my guy taking soil samples'.:laughing7:

After lunch we returned to the virgin Roman Site & hit it from a different angle now that the straw was in, & finished up in another Barley Stubble field across the road. Funny enough next to a grass field that Cru'Dad saw Land-Mag yesterday where he stated, ''all I need now is a Bronze Celtic to finish the set''. Funny how that spurred me into getting my first this year!

2 Scrappies
Medieval Buckles
17th C Spur (broken & bent)
Roman Fibula Catch-Plate
Our first Alcester Type Brooch 1st-2nd C AD (Trumpet derivative)
1871 Sixpence
Silver Thimble
Circa 10BC Celtic Bronze Unit of Tasciovanus.

I like your thinking. "What did they dug there? Let's have a look!" Could be me... Congrats on the Celtic bronze and the Alcester Brooch!
The catchplate comes from a nice large one. :icon_thumright:

Way to go! Iโ€™m a sucker for cool looking silver so I like the sixpence. Hard to argue with 2000 years old though. Keep ripping CRU!

Probably not that.
But it's the team research that makes it work. There is too much work for 1 person, so it's with that in mine we have another new permission that Land-Mag just informed us about. We will make in roads this year & build on that. To make the best impression straight off you need good targetted research & that is what blows away the Land-Owners minds, who may have owned this land for generations without a clue whats there.
