Great buckles and pipes. I have found a similar plate and it was ID'd as a trunk plate. An other plate, very similar but oval, had the name of the officer and his regiment number. It too had the same attachments in the back as yours.

The attachments don't mean much other than they went on leather. These are identical to many types of horse harness brasses, especially blinkers.(I'm only commenting on the attachment type)

Awesome hunt. I haven't seen a plate like that, but it looks like you have matching shoe or knee buckles? Phenomenal! The clay pipes are definitely the older style 18th century. You have a great spot. It could be that Smokey already has in her collection one of almost every relic- amazing! :icon_thumleft:

Nice plate indeed . I think as others give opinions on these plates the consensus will be probably trunk plates. Most cross belt plates , Rev WAr, War or 1812 and later normally have 3 hook attachments in order to adjust the waist belt or on a sword rig to the wearer. These hooks look permanent as they would be on a trunk. Quite a few show up on Ebay as period REv WAr but can be late and folks have to be careful buying them. Again great relic and really fantastic array of buttons, coins and relics anyone would be proud to find and own. Gary

I'd like to see a close up of the knee buckles. They look like a matched pair, but I can't blow the picture up for some reason.
