When out for a couple of hours the other day near a gold rush era site and found the usual stuff:

musket ball
pick- axe
Chinese opium tin
old button
memorial penny (Ha!)

All fun stuff. While cleaning out the junk section of pouch I looked more closely at a clip thingy and thought I saw some writing on it. Yea ... Pat Feb 20 17. Gave me something to research. Surprised to find that it was the metal part of a WW1 era pistol lanyard. Never would have guessed that! The braided cloth is long gone but what a nice surprise. Included a picture of what the original would have looked like.

Nice finds, Winslow...I bet in your neck of the woods there is no shortage of picks, shovels, lantern parts etc. in the ground. Would be nice to see a cleaned up pic of the opium tin, again something that was popular in that area. Congrats, Ddf.
