Back into the woods this morning on the hunt for relics, not so steamy today as we had a cool down Thursday night. Mostly roundballs but I did get a loud but deep buckle. Late in the hunt, a high-tone ringing in at 31 on the Equinox turned out to be a very readable 1798 Draped Bust LC.
Thanks toasted. Yes, after I looked at Yeoman's coin book I did a re-check of my DB to verify it is not a "liberty cap". Well, we know it can't be with a date of 1798. Reverse has detail for sure but I don't want to put any liquid on it. Have it sealed in a coin holder now.
Thanks Megalodon. I recall finding a pretty beat up LC at Patterson Park (when we were allowed to detect there). Some one had put a nail through it, so it was holed in the middle. A friend pointed out to me that it was a "Classic Head" since the bust line extended down to the stars.
Thanks Jeff. I had flipped it out of the hole and located it with the pinpointer. Brushing away some soil I see this green disk, coin or button? Great coin for me. I've invited others to this site and two have found large coppers. This is my second LC from here.
Thanks Truth! It would be great to turn back time and see where the folks spent their time at this site. Each hunt I get a better picture of places they frequented.
Thanks RelicMedic. Site is near a river valley and the area is now part of a metroplitan wastershed, so the very early river-side homes and mills are under water.
