2 times yesterday I thought I had a great find and twice I was disappointed

I went on a water hunt yesterday. It was cooler and raining and windy so even in my wetsuit I was cold. About 30 minutes into the hunt I got a nice 60-61 on my ATPro and scooped up a nice shiny gold pendant. It was cloudy and miserable so i stuck it in my bag and went on, happy that i had found some gold. I continued for a total of 3.5 hours and got changed. I had found a few coins and some earrings and a couple of cheapy rings. Not a great total hunt, but the gold made it good. I got to my truck and got out a magnifying glass and had a quick look at the pendant. It was marked JS, no 10k or 14k. I took a better look and the color and the way the pendant looked told me it was not gold. A big disappointment. At home I confirmed that JS is a costume jewelry mark.

The finds totaled 8 coins with a face value of $.30, some tabs, a metal Deadpool figure that is really cool, a zipper pull, cheapy jewelry including 2 pairs of earrings, the pendant and 2 silver earrings, plus foil and a few bottle caps.

It was still raining and the weather looked bad for the next few hours, but i said what the heck and put on my rain gear and went to the festival grounds and did some swingin with the CZ21 around the ball field and the concession stands and spectator area. I got the usual junk and a total of 68 coins with a face value of $6.25 and a Figure 9 Carabiner. The last coin had a nice silver rim peaking out of the dirt. I took it to a puddle and saw a badly worn merc dime. I took a look at the date and saw 191, but the last number was hiding under a stain, but it looked like a 6. I flipped it over and saw the D and thought OMG I found a 1916D a really great find. When I got home to took a long hard look and looked and looked and at the right angle i could see that it was an 8 and not a 6. My second disappointment.

So 2 big disappointments but i did find 3 silvers and a nice batch of gas money. That makes a good day of swingin in spite of the letdowns. I will hit a different swimming area Monday and see what turns up. It is always fun and you never know what will come out of the ground, or sand, next. Thanks for looking and may your coil lead you to good things.

tnt I think we all know the feeling. Thinking that I have something good pushes me to keep going and when having no luck you keep saying well at least I got this or thank God I got that. Then you get to the truck and realize everything was for nothing . Lol

Two pairs of earrings? Wow! I've never done that! It's almost always a single.

Same thing happened to me with a Merc a couple years ago. Could have sworn it was 1916 under the dirt, and had a 'd' on the back. Got home and nope, 1918. I feel your pain lol! Oh well it's still a silver Merc! Congrats on the finds

I was out digging, last evening, still thinking about A2coins’ thread about the 1894 S dime; when I find myself pulling an 1894 dime, out of the dirt. It wasn’t a San Francisco. I feel your disappointment. If there’s one thing this hobby has taught me, it’s that there’s always tomorrow. Keep swinging.

Actually no gold honker, just a small gold ring with a nice ruby, 2 silver rings and a silver earring back. Stay tuned for my next post (hopefully I’ll get it done tomorrow).
