Stopped at a small town park I have never hunted before over lunch today. First deep coin signal was hitting in the wheat penny range. I dug it out and was surprised to see a nice green indian staring back at me. I couldn't see the date so I hit it with my water spray bottle and couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the date. 1877!!. This is my second 1877 indian head now. I dug one last year and unfortunately I scratched it good with my digger. Not this time! This one survived unscathed and it is in pretty good condition too. Only had about 30 minutes to hunt but I found this and a 1918 wheat penny so I am very pleased with the results. 20190904_114448.jpg 20190904_170254.jpg 20190904_170241.jpg

Awesome penny! It looks great. That and the 1918 wheat makes for a great hunt. I am happy to have one good coin or token each hunt.

First of all, congratulations on finding that IHP. Second, you need to get that coin down to your local coin dealer and ask for an appraisal. That might be a coin that you send out to PCGS!

That’s the cent we’re all looking for. That’s an awesome find in great condition and perhaps needs a trip across the top as a banner. Vote submitted.

That is THE key date for the Indian cents! Very, very nice. From past experience, if you send it for grading they will slab it for you of course, but not grade it. It will say something like Genuine - Environmental damage. I've seen that a lot.

What a beaut. Amazing find, definitely makes up for the lack of silver.

Oh I am well aware lol. I found a 77 back in 2017 and gouged it with my lesche. I was devastated. Never thought I would find another!
