On my latest hunt i had part of a once very good site under the coil. With a very small time frame it was no time to grid the whole field so i just grid the known hot spots. Finds were sparse and i assume i was later as the competition...
Still got some finds.
Religious pendants, buttons, token, coins and a brooch

Scrappies, nice condition nail, drawer pull acorn, weird pendant, a first for me.

Two better coins, left one has some silver wash left and could be an early Follis, rare in our area.

The find of the day came 10 steps from the truck. I just thanked the detecting gods for my success whilst still swinging the coil, then a clear loud beep in the headphones...one cut with the spade and a glimpse of gold in the dirt...
At home and cleaned it looked early medieval to me. Probably 7thC. merowingian brooch. Today a had a meet at the archies and they had a look on it.
Early medieval is confirmed, could been a brooch, could been an earring. Against the brooch is the thick gold, against the earring is the big size of formerly about 25-30mm. As early Merowingian gold is rare as hens teeth, this little piece went into the safe at the museum immediately and will be probed from an expert soon.

Thanks for looking and good luck to you all on your next hunts! :occasion14:

All those good finds would have been a fine day without the gold. You just keep finding really cool things Lu. Congrats on making the Arkies heart go pitter-patter. Keep it up and good luck!
