Got out late Saturday afternoon into the watershed, carrying in my new mini-Sampson shovel in my backpack along with the Equinox and water. Commenced detecting a slope above the old home site and started off by digging half a shoe buckle frame. The frame broke right where the pin fit to hold tongue and chape, in fact, each side-frame section has half a hole. A number of round balls were rescued, and late in the hunt, from two separate holes, came four parts to a lady's sash buckle. The fine detail and gilding is shown from one piece.

Nice. The broken shoe buckle frame is 18th century, musket balls impossible to tell but the other buckles are Victorian age, mid 19th century.

Smokey, thanks for the period IDs on the two buckles, it's like putting a 'face' to the 'name'.

Well done Mike, woods hunting is a good alternative to parks with cement like ground

Thank you, 8Reales. This has been my best summer of "woods" relic hunting yet.

Your finding some nice old buckles in that dirt. Just wonder what else you will uncover there. Nice going.
