I love them, spray a little WD-40 in the wide end and let it soak for a little while. Then wrap the part you turn with a small rag and use a plyers or adjustable wrench to wiggle it back and forth. It should loosen up unless theirs a small rock inside or something jamming it. Cool find:icon_thumleft: Paul:coffee2:

From the olden days when a simple little device was wonderfully made and pleasing to look at. These days things just are not made this way.

I think your date range of 1880s to early 1900s is a good guess. I found a similar ornate valve at a home built in about 1880. The one you found looks in better condition. How did you clean it?
